The live of a sibling of a child with autistic spektrum disorder
BUŘIČOVÁ, Lenka
The bachelor thesis deals with healthy siblings in families with a child with autistic spectrum disorder. The aim of this work was to find out and describe how autistic spectrum disorder affects the life of a healthy sibling. Qualitative research was used to fulfill the above stated goal. In accordance with the chosen strategy, the research sample was selected by the communication snowball method. The research sample are parents of children with autism spectrum disorders and healthy siblings. Data were obtained by interrogation of uncontrolled (depth) interview and evaluated using cluster method. The results of the interview with parents show that the siblings of children with ASD are limited by their siblings and are much more demanding than siblings with disabilities, in the social (considerate, tolerant and autonomous) and in education when they expect excellent learning outcomes and also that healthy siblings will continue to develop in the area of interest. The results from the interview with healthy siblings show that my siblings are aware of their limitations and their position in the family. The siblings of a child with an autism spectrum disorder are also aware that they have more insight and have gained greater understanding for other individuals with disabilities thanks their experience with sibling with autism spectrum disorder. The expected benefit for practice is to draw attention to this topic to other parents and professionals who forget to work with siblings with autism spectrum disorders.
